Overview

• Procurement Expenditure in Odisha:

  Odisha (formerly Orissa) is located in eastern India on the Bay of Bengal. It is known for its tribal culture and many ancient Hindu temples. The state is the 8th largest by area and the 11th largest state by population. Orissa has a coastline of 485 KMs along the Bay of Bengal in the Indian Ocean. The region is also known as Utkala and it is mentioned by this name in India's national anthem, Jana Gana Mana. The language of Odisha is Odia, it is one of the classical languages of India. The economy of Odisha is the 16th largest in India with 7.2 Lakh Crores (i.e. USD 90 Billion). Bhubaneswar is the capital of the state.  Orissa has a total of 30 districts. The government procurement in a year amounts to USD 10.8 Billion, assuming the government expenditure is at 12% of the GDP. A total of 249 State government agencies and Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) advertise tenders to procure goods, services and works required by the Odisha Government. Tenders are invited by the following key agencies: Commerce and Transport, University, Municipal Corporation, District Administration, Health and Family department and Department of Steel and Mines.

• 5050 MW of power projects in Odisha:

  The State Government of Odisha has plans to increase its energy production by 5050 MW by 2030. Out of this 5050, 2865 MW will be generated using conventional sources and 2185 MW will be generated from renewable energy sources (i.e. Hydro power, wind power and solar power). Under this initiative, addition of 660 MW of power is envisaged by expanding NTPC (i.e. National Thermal Power Corporation) at Talcher. NTPC (Darlipali), NLC India (Talabira) and Odisha Power Generation Corporation will commission 1530 MW of power projects by 2027-28. The break-up of various renewable energy expansion plans are: 830 MW from Hydroelectric plants, 939 MW from Solar power and 416 MW from wind power plant. 

• INR 223 Crore fund allocated for the Puri Heritage City Project:

  The Odisha government has allocated INR 223 crore to develop puri as a World Class Heritage City. This budget was allocated under the Augmentation of Basic Amenities and Development of Heritage and Architecture (ABADHA) scheme to carry out various projects such as Shree Mandira Parikrama Project (SMPP), Shree Setu, Jagannath Ballav Pilgrim Centre, Revival of Musa river and Heritage ponds and development of beach front. Additionally, there is allocation of INR 158 crore under the scheme of Integrated Development of Heritage and Monuments and Tourist Destination for undertaking development works in heritage sites like Konark, Maa Sarala, Maa Cuttack Chandi, Shree Nilamadhaba, Sikharchandi, Alarnath Pitha. 

• INR 9,133 crores for four new bridges in Odisha:

  Under the Road Development Program (RDP), the Odisha government has planned the construction of four new bridges, including the second bridge over the Kathajodi river near Trisulia, two bridges over river Baitarani at Chandbali and Anandpur, and another over river Brahmani at Aul. The government has allocated INR 9,133 crores for this project. In addition to this, the Road Development Program (RDP) will include the construction of a six-lane road along the Daya West Canal, for which the government has allocated INR 4,600 crore.

• INR 6,283 crore for cyclone-resistant distribution network in coastal regions.:

  The proposal to establish a cyclone-resistant power distribution network in the coastal regions has been sanctioned by the Odisha government. The primary objective is to guarantee a consistent supply of electricity to crucial facilities such as hospitals, emergency control rooms, evacuation centers, water supply points, and administrative blocks, even during cyclones. The estimated cost of the project is INR 6,283 crore, and the detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared for submission to the Ministry of Power as part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
