Top ranked services procurement by government agencies in Kerala
Several hundreds of government offices in Kerala will need to be maintained for which painting works are regularly undertaken. Last year, close to three hundred tenders were published by the government agencies in Kerala for painting works. Unless road and canal construction, where one or two agencies specialize in handling the work, the painting works are undertaken by a large number of procuring entities. The canal infrastructure in Kerala exceeds 5000 kilometers, which needs regular maintenance and is being upgraded by the government to support the ever-important Agricultural sector. More than three thousand tenders were published during the last year for strengthening and desilting of canal infrastructure. A significant percentage of these tenders were published by the department of Irrigation, Kerala. Many different types of works were undertaken such as lining of the canal, leak prevention works and grass clearance in the canals.
Top ranked goods procurement by government agencies in Kerala
Just as it with any state government, civil construction is a key spend area for the government. During the last financial year, government agencies in Kerala advertised over two thousand tenders for purchasing construction materials. The key buyers of construction materials in the State are Local Self Government Department (LSGD) and Kerala Public Works Department. Many public sector undertakings (PSU) operating in the State such as NALCO and Indian Army advertised tenders for the procurement of construction materials. Many different items are purchased under this category namely, Asphalt, sand and materials to be supplied for labourers under the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee scheme.

The Kerala Higher Education department and the department of Industrial training were key buyers of computers. A few PSU’s such as the National Institute of Fashion Technology and the Indian Space Research Organization purchased desktops. Many government establishments such as the universities, quality checking institutions and research organizations in Kerala purchased laboratory equipments. More than six hundred laboratory equipment tenders were published in the last financial year. The key buyers of lab equipments were the Kerala University and the Commissionerate of Food Safety. A few public sector undertakings located in the state such as the ISRO and the Indian council of Agricultural Research purchased lab equipments also. Two key buyers are there for vehicle spares in Kerala: Indian army and the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). The KSRTC has 6000+ buses for which spare parts will need to be purchased. Similarly, Indian army has many military vehicles for which spare parts are required. In the last financial year, five hundred tenders were published by government agencies in Kerala for the procurement of vehicle spares. Wind shield, oil, fuel cut off solenoid and clutch cylinder are a few items purchased by the Kerala government agencies under this category.
The Kerala government has a robust health care system and has devised policies such as Aardram Mission and Karunya Arogya Suraksha Padhathi for universal health care. Many essential medicines are provided free of charge in government hospitals in Kerala. To address the medicine requirements of the 1200+ hospitals, government agencies advertised 307 tenders during the last financial year. The key buyer of medicines in the Kerala state are the Directorate of Medical education. Among the PSUs, Southern Railways purchased medicines. Many different types of medicines are purchased by the government such as Dasatinb tablet, 2 compartment petri dish, sterline bone cement and Alpha ketoanalogue oral tablets.
